Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa)

Now at Toucheng Farm, this plant is an attraction. With its plant and flowers, they can heal a "sore eye"!

Roselle's (Hibiscus sabdariffa) flower is white to yellow with a dark red spot at the base of each petal plus a stout fleshy calyx at its base, it becomes fleshy and bright red as the fruit matures.




Its plant has antihypertensive property - it was used in folk medicine as a diuretic, mild laxative. It is also a treatment for cardiac and nerve diseases even cancer.





Take a close look at its beautiful flowers, they are fascinating!




If served as tea, it is believed to reduce cholesterol in Thailand. And here in Taiwan it is also served as tea or eaten as a preserved fruit.

This prolific plant is served as tea, beverage and has many medicinal uses such as to treat hypertension and urinary tract infections.
