The Citrus Family fruits

Toucheng Leisure Farm is fortunate to grow three kinds of citrus family fruits in its orchard.

One of them is the mandarin orange, and bigger than the other two citruses.
The are round, thick -skinned and edible, turn reddish-yellow when ripe.
Guests can pick them right from the trees during the spring season when they are ripe, juicy and sweet!

The second kind is the bitter orange or Fortunella margarita. They are famous for marinating purposes or broiled fish spice. They are also round, small and turns yellow from green when ripe. They are not eaten raw but can be used to make marmalades.








And the third kind is the Kumquat. This citrus family specie has edible skin and meat. They are also made into soft candies. At the Farm's Winery it is an ingredient for making Kumquat wines.















The Farm's Kumquat orchards are full of fruits during the spring season and guests enjoy picking them bountifully to bring home to their families and friends.


There are still fruits hanging on the trees, come and enjoy them while there is still time.

Formosan Blue Magpie

The Formosan Blue Magpie or Urocissa caerulea or is also sometimes called "the long-tailed mountain lady because of its long and colorful tail.
Identifying them is easy: Both male and female has similar colors - head,neck and breast are black, they have yellow eyes, their bill and legs are red and their plumage is dark blue to purple.










They feed on snakes, rodents, small insects, plants, fruits and seeds. Papaya and figs are their favorite fruits.














Formosan Blue Magpies are monogamous birds. The females incubate eggs, the males help to build nest and feed the young. They are very protective of their young and could attack intruders until they depart.



Flocks of them welcome me when I reach the Farm's gate in the morning.

A wonderful sight to see, indeed!


Formosan Blue Magpie is Taiwan's national bird.

Broccoli Sprouts

Today, I will bring you to our vegetable garden.
Do you see something yellow, attractive and delicious!









Here you see the Chinese character which read: "Ching hwa Tsai" it means broccoli sprouts.






Broccoli sprouts is one of the most nutritious vegetables to eat. You can fill it in sandwiches, salads or dips. They are very delicious, and beneficial to one's health.




Broccoli is full of vitamins, minerals and protein, it is under research and could have a powerful cancer fighting ability.




They grow at Toucheng Leisure Farm now.




Even though there's not enough to eat for everybody, at least you can watch the colorful yellow flowers to cool your eyes!

Rapeseed's yellow flower

Rapeseed or Brassica napus belongs to the mustard or cabbage family.

Now they are in full bloom at Toucheng Leisure Farm's vegetable garden.

It is very famous as vegetable's oil source - canola oil.







Besides the oil, the leaves and stems are also edible and in Chinese they are called "oil vegetable" due to its importance in making the canola oil.






Their yellow blossoms are very attractive, look the bees are buzzing as they collect the nectar.

It is very relaxing to just watch the flowers, the green surroundings, the bees as they fly from one flower to another!

White Peach blossoms in bloom

During early spring, flowers are in bloom. Besides the cherry blossoms, the peach blossoms are also in bloom.



The white flowers looks do pure and mystic. With all the green leaves gone, only the white flowers are attached to the stem looking like snow. What a spectacular sight indeed!





Toucheng Leisure Farm has this beautiful scenery for all its guests to enjoy.

Peach blossoms are a highly prices objects in the Chinese culture. They are an inspiration to poets and painters alike.

Toucheng Leisure Farm's Cherry Blossoms

Toucheng Leisure Farm has another attraction at this spring time.







Taiwan Flowering Cherry or prunus campanatula is a small, slender tree which grows gracefully.




It can grow up to 25 feet high. They bloom single, drooped, striking rose petals in clusters.




They bloom around early to late spring. Now is the time to watch this lovely flowers.
