Germans and Taiwanese Guests

A friend's wedding ceremony gave some Germans the chance to come to Taiwan, and it's Toucheng Leisure Farm's honor to have been chosen as part of their trip to Yilan County.

They came with their Taiwanese friends to accompany their memorable trip.

The short visit gave them the opportunity to walk around the rice paddies and learn how rice is cultivated and produced.

Look at this colorful T-shirt they painted. They will bring it back to Germany as their testimony of a memorable visit.

To understand what I am talking about, you can visit us at Toucheng Leisure Farm and surely, you'll never regret!

A new kid at the Farm.

A new kid has arrived at Toucheng Leisure Farm!

Last week, mommy goat gave birth to a cute kid, look at its photo taken and see how cute it is!

Domestic goats are closely related to the sheep as they both belong to the goat-antelop subfamily Caprinae.

Here at the Farm, they live together and it is difficult to differentiate them. One way to distinquish them is when they're hungry and "cry". How? Goats' cry: mei...mei..mei! and how about the sheep? Did you remember your kindergarten song: "Bah...bah..black sheep have you any wool"? you can be sure it is a sheep!

Here are some information about goats I gathered, thanks to Wikipedia for these:

Females are called does or nannies.

Males are called bucks or billies.

Baby goats - kids

Goat meat (commonly used) mutton.

Its scientific name is capra aegagrus hircus.

They give us milk to drink, meat to eat, skin and hair for clothes and some modern men care them as pets.

Would you like to see for yourself this newly arrival kid?

Come to Toucheng Leisure Farm and enjoy this good news!

LOHAS - 1 (Bamboo )

Half of Toucheng Leisure Farm's more than 100 hectares land grows bamboo. This bamboo (phyllostacys makinoi-hayata) is one of nature's miracle and an extremely useful grass.

Besides serving its shoots as food prepared in different delicious cuisine, bamboo is used as materials for guests of the Farm during the DIY activities.

Bamboo is cut into pieces according to its uses:

For making bamboo dragonfly:

This is the process for the bamboo crane making.

Materials used for making the bamboo flute.

This is one way Toucheng Leisure Farm advocates the LOHAS' principle of "recycle, reuse and reduce".

Bamboos are prolific grasses and their abundant growth at Toucheng Leisure Farm is indeed a blessing.

As bamboo grows rapidly, they have to be cut often or they will "run" around to invade the whole area.

DIY activities are guests enjoyment especially the bamboo flute which could be a challenging to those are not used to manual experience. But, a successful attempt can be a memorable moment to hear a sound mimicking a bird's song!

A rotten bamboo decoration does not end up at the garbage area. Where then? They are utilized as firewood for the kiln (a traditional oven) to cook the sweet potatoes, or whole chicken for a delicious meal.

There are numerous ways we can reuse or recycle bamboos. I can enumerate them for you later.

LOHAS

LOHAS - which means:Lifestyle Of Health And Sustainability, is a very broad subject. But I think we can shorten it to the word: " green "!

At Toucheng Leisure Farm, the word "green" has been in existence even LOHAS was discovered or officially formed!

This house is just one example.

Rainwater is collected from the roof through a bamboo pole and reserved in a pond.

And flow to a drainage which waters the flowers and gardens which beautifies and keep them fresh and alive!

Isn'tt it a healthy, fresh and a sustainable place to live? Would you dream to live in a place similar to this or stay here for sometime once in a while?

This is one of the many places located at Toucheng Leisure Farm, where LOHAS is forever present!

Spend a day or two for a thorough understanding of this lifestyle advocated most especially at this generation and period.

Wait for more LOHAS at Toucheng Leisure Farm in a series! Keep watching!

Unidentified Giant Crab

There are three streams surrounding Toucheng Leisure Farm.

The continuous rain for almost two weeks, filled the river and flowed non-stop to the Ocean.

This giant (unidentified specie or age) hairy crab was spotted by the worker and soon it became a celebrity!

Could you imagine a 30 cm crab along the river?

Look at it closely, even just in this photo.

And what do you think happened to it?

Toucheng Leisure Farm is an ecological world which respects nature and preserve it, so after all these photos it was set free!

It's fortunate enough to have gotten "lost " at the Farm's vicinity otherwise, it will land on some one's large platter for dinner!

Many stories and memories were told about or at Toucheng Leisure Farm!

Come and tell your own story, many are waiting to listen!
