Carefree Goose

At the country side there are many domesticated fowls. Geese are one of them. At Toucheng Leisure Farm we raise geese, and they also raise their family here. Father gander and mother goose lived here for several years already.

Many times they are going around the area and enjoy a carefree and leisurely life.

Do you know that the Chinese raise geese for three reasons?

First: their meat is deliciously palatable.

Secondly: they can guard your house just like dogs, bite the intruders!

Thirdly: their droppings is a repellent for snakes.

Ducks, geese and swans are water fowls belonging toe the biological family of Anatidae. They are small to large sized birds with a general body which are broad and elongated. Geese' necks are long depending on their species. Their legs are short and webbed feet.

Anatids are vocal birds, whose sound ranges from quacks, honks squeaks or trumpet-like sounds. Females has deeper voice than males.

At Toucheng Leisure Farm, they always greet guests with their chorus as a welcoming gesture.

Farm's International Guests

Today, (Oct. 10) is a special for Taiwan, it's the 100Th year of the Founding of the Republic of China.





Today, some foreign guests visited Toucheng Leisure Farm to spend a free day and be close to nature.








Look at the pictures I took as they toured around the Farm feeding the goats, watching the water buffaloes and the newly born calf.

















They live in Taipei with their families and work there, too.











They come from different countries like Argentina, India, Japan, Switzerland and Tibet.











We watched the "human faced" spider as it was trying to throw out the leaf after it realized it is not tasty at all!




The white paper butterfly was dancing around the vine (parsonsia laevigata) as we passed by, unfortunately, the rain prevented us from seeing the real caterpillar and pupa, though there were pictures to demonstrate the metamorphosis of a butterfly.

Rice paddies weeding

Last month, the Farmer transplanted rice seedlings in the rice paddies, and now they have grown taller, so does the weeds! They rob the nutrients reserved only for the rice plant. That's why the Farmer is now busy weeding!











Weeding, is a tedious job for a Farmer. He has to wear straw hat, soak his feet barefooted in the muddy rice paddies, bend his waist to pull up the weeds, but burying them again to serve as fertilizer. It is "killing two birds with one stone"!

When we werechildren, we were told to" eat up every grain of rice in the bowl"! We must be grateful to the Farmer for the rice we eat. It"s all his labor: planting rice grain, then transplanting the seedlings to the rice paddies, weeding and harvesting. Under the heat of the sun, usually all day long! So, each rice grain is like a tiny white pearl, too precious to be wasted away!

At the green and glossy field, the Farmer does his job day after day. Weeding is part of the rice production process, following it no matter how tiresome, only then he can be assured of a plentiful harvest.

After the weeding process, he can watch the rice plant grow taller and wait for the rice grain

to appear and full, ready for a bountiful harvest!

Toucheng Leisure Farm has a rice culture area where one can act as a farmer for a day.

A new born calf

Toucheng Leisure Farm is blessed with a new arrival - a cute calf!





Here is the picture of the newly born just a few days old, beside the mother cow.











Asian domestic water buffalo, (Bubalus bubalis) is a useful animal and a farmer's best friend!





Their dung is used as fertilizer and when dried can be used as fuel.








An adult water buffalo can grow up to 300 - 600 kilograms. Females (cow) can weigh up to 800kg. and males (bull) up to 1,200 kg.

Their gestation period is 10 - 11 months. They usually give birth to single offspring but twins can be possible. Their sexual maturity varies, for bulls it takes 18 months but for cows it could take up to 3 years.

Awesome Autumn

At Toucheng Leisure Farm a special tree grows. It is at this time that it is particularly seen.


Discovering the romantic autumn!

Why romantic?

The Taiwan rain tree's yellow flower is turning Toucheng Leisure Farm atmosphere romantic. When the cool breeze from the east blows, they slowly fall like tiny yellow umbrellas to the ground. Then, they gradually return to the soil where they belong.

The Taiwan rain tree changes with the season. At spring time it put on a light green coat. When summer comes, they are transformed into a green shade. But during autumn the fresh green gradually fades where the leaves turns into yellow flowers with red capsules rapidly. Winter turns it into a dead tree, as if it does not care about anything, just waiting for the arrival of next year's spring.

Nature's beauty is silently changing like that. The yellow small flowers appears quietly along with autumn under the tree, carelessly vanishing as time goes by. The beautiful change is ubiquitous, easily forgotten. Just like the Taiwan rain tree's golden tiny flowers, small they maybe, it needs your attentive mood to discover them closely.

Advensus Industrial Computing DMS employees

More than a hundred employees of Advensus Industrial Computing DMS Factory both foreign and local, visited Toucheng Leisure Farm this Sunday for a day relaxation. Here are the OFWs from the Philippines who came.

A welcoming snack at the corridors of the Farm delighted them, just enough to start the first activity of bamboo craft, all DIY for everybody to enjoy.

Before lunch a tour around the Farm gave them the chance to feel the fresh and clean air of the surrounding, plus watching the "human faced spider" as it freely set on its wide web, or the rice paper butterfly as it fly low and slow.

Here they had the chance of visiting the mud hut, a house made of natural materials and done manually to exactly follow how our forefathers build it years ago.

They had the second snack at the Farm GrandMa's kitchen just beside the ride paddies.

A tour around the Farm is incomplete without relaxing oneself at the hammocks made out of the "money trees" wood which had fallen down during the typhoon.

The last activity was T-shirt printing and bamboo crane making.

VOLKSWAGEN owners in Taiwan

The Volkswagen Company in Taiwan invited all owners of Volkswagen cars, to spend a day at Toucheng Leisure Farm this weekend.


More than a hundred responded to the invitation. With their families and friends, they all spent a day at the Farm, enjoying all the activities. You should see all kinds of Volkswagen cars in line at the Farm's parking spaces.




They started the day with a tour around the Farm with our professional Tour Guides, then partook the sumptuous lunch at noon.

After a brief rest, all joined the DIY activities of bamboo and wood crafts, T-shirt printing and dried betel nut creation.




The relaxing and fruitful day ended sharing moments with friends the traditional Chinese snacks at the Toucheng Leisure Farm for all the guests present.


Just a few information to share with you: Volkswagen (VW - its abbreviation) which means "people's car" in German. Their current slogan is Das Auto or "The Car" in English. Did you know that?

Mid Autumn Festival 2011

The Mid Autumn Festival, also called the Moon Festival is one of the most important feast in the Chinese Calendar.

This year 2011, the feast day fall on Sept. 12 (or the 15Th day of the 8Th month of the Lunar Calendar). It is believed that the moon is at its fullest and roundest.

One famous myth associated with this feast is the story of China's goddess of the Moon Chang O.

She was the wife of Hou Yi, a strong and tyrannical archer who saved the earth by shooting down nine suns.

She drank the elixir of life stolen by her husband from a goddess. After drinking, she floated and flew to the moon. That's where she is up to this day!

It is customary to eat the fruit. pomelo which is as round as the moon on this day. Eating a moon cake while grazing at the moon is another Mid Autumn Festival custom.

Sky Lantern Activity

One of the most-loved and famous DIY activities at the Farm is the making and lighting of the Sky lantern.

This activity had been enjoyed and impressed thousands since it was introduced at the Farm for many years. Every night after the BBQ dinner, every one awaits that special moments.

But do you know that this activity can cause problems?

There are times when this paper-made lanterns are not pasted well or done hastily. Or the weather is not too cooperative that it failed to fly higher, could fall to the ground and cause fire enough to burn houses. There are also times when it could fly too high parallel to an airplane and cause a plane crash!.

To avoid any accident, the Government banned all activities of flying sky lanterns.

As an obedient organization, Toucheng Leisure Farm has replaced the flying, lighted lantern with a DIY cute, lovely mini lantern.
