Half of Toucheng Leisure Farm's more than 100 hectares land grows bamboo. This bamboo (phyllostacys makinoi-hayata) is one of nature's miracle and an extremely useful grass.
Besides serving its shoots as food prepared in different delicious cuisine, bamboo is used as materials for guests of the Farm during the DIY activities.
Bamboo is cut into pieces according to its uses:
For making bamboo dragonfly:
This is the process for the bamboo crane making.
Materials used for making the bamboo flute.
This is one way Toucheng Leisure Farm advocates the LOHAS' principle of "recycle, reuse and reduce".
Bamboos are prolific grasses and their abundant growth at Toucheng Leisure Farm is indeed a blessing.
As bamboo grows rapidly, they have to be cut often or they will "run" around to invade the whole area.
DIY activities are guests enjoyment especially the bamboo flute which could be a challenging to those are not used to manual experience. But, a successful attempt can be a memorable moment to hear a sound mimicking a bird's song!
A rotten bamboo decoration does not end up at the garbage area. Where then? They are utilized as firewood for the kiln (a traditional oven) to cook the sweet potatoes, or whole chicken for a delicious meal.
There are numerous ways we can reuse or recycle bamboos. I can enumerate them for you later.
