Students from Singapore studying at The Institute of Technical Education College Central visited Toucheng Farm this week.

After a sumptuous lunch, they toured the Farm and the rice paddies area. Here are the photos taken while they actually went down inside the wet rice paddy to transplant the rice seedlings.

The first-hand experience of holding the seedlings and touching the growing rice plants and the husked rice grains are unforgettable moments.

They also feed the Farm animals like water buffaloes, goats and watched the geese and ducks as these cute creatures swim in the water around the animals area.

After a delicious BBQ dinner, everyone gathered to do the sky lantern DIY and write their wishes on it. The activities of the day ended with the lighting and watching the sky lantern as it soars up to the skies.

Toucheng Farm's water buffalo calf

Good news! Good news! We have a new arrival, at Toucheng Farm!

Our mother water buffalo gave birth to a healthy, normal, 50 kilos male calf this month! Amazing!
Wikipedia claims that a female water buffalo produces calf every other year after gestation of 9 - 11 months. But she gives birth every year! Its just to tell you that our water buffaloes are well fed, well-bred, healthy and fertile!

In Asia and here in Taiwan, water buffaloes are a farmer's best friend and helper.

They are used as draft, meat and source of dairy products. All domesticated buffaloes has only one common ancestor - the wild water buffalo.

Look at this photo, of "mother and son" together as they walk around the barn.

Just a few information:

They are a source of the favorite mozzarella cheese.

95% of the world's water buffalo's population lives in Asia.

Legend says: that Lao Tze, a Chinese philosopher (sage) left China riding a water buffalo passing through the Han Gu Pass.

The many faces of Fall

Fall is also a beautiful season. Here I have some tell....

Taiwan rain tree is native to Taiwan. Its scientific name is -Koelreuteria formosana. Formosa was the former name of Taiwan.

Now it is in full bloom , its flowers fall on the fish pond and just as beautiful to behold!


Or fall along the stones to show its yellow and red petals.



The morning glory greets every guest with its purple bloom!

So with the "purple glory flower" with its attractive colorful petals!

Or even the sun tells you, today will be a beautiful autumn day!

The Chen Family from Indonesia

Jimmy Chen works as a researcher in Taiwan and invited his parents and brother to come.

They visited Toucheng Farm last week to spend three days and two nights vacation.

IDEA of National Taiwan University

National Taiwan University Students has a project named IDEA ( Intercultural Discovery and Experiences in Asia)



A group of sixty students from different countries participated the IDEA 2010 seminar which included a trip to Toucheng Farm.







They had the fun of building a kiln ( a traditional oven ) using dried clay with their bare hands .

They did it successfully and perfectly! Here are some pictures taken.








They toured the Farm, feed the goats and water buffaloes and played around the swings and hammocks. Each had a T-shirt to print using the leaves from the trees growing in the Farm.

Everyone partook the BBQ party and ate a sumptuous dinner.

The visit ended with the lighting of the miniature sky lanterns and everyone boarded the bus happily and contented.

It was indeed an intercultural discovery!

Jennifer and Vi

Two pretty, daring, young English teachers from Kaohsiung City visited Toucheng Farm last Sunday.




These two ladies has so much to tell. They rode a motorcycle from the south to the north of Taiwan, passing by the east coast!

Do they look tired? Not at all!



They toured the Farm and made some sky lantern after a delicious BBQ.

They got up so early the next day to watch sunrise at the platform high up in the mountain.

After a brief stay, they proceeded to Taipei.

Susan, Tony and their three daughters

Susan and Tony lives in California and toured Taiwan this summer. Accompanying them are their three lovely daughters: Ashley, Allison and Andrea.



Look at them as they posed in the middle of the rice paddies. Toucheng the grain of rice we eat everyday is a new experience, indeed!





Here's the pretty Ashley at the rice blowing machine to separate the full rice grain and the empty ones.

Andrea wants to stay at Toucheng Farm longer, and sleep at those wooden hammocks!

Barbara and her son Tom

Tom is an English Teacher working in Taiwan. His Mom, Barbara came to visit him and he
planned a two night stay at Toucheng Farm.


The cool water was just too tempting, and after a short river trek, they dip into the pool with the
Summer Campers.



River trekking is one of our summer activities, and at the end is a small pool of spring water from the eternal spring on top of the mountain.

They spent the afternoon at the beach strolling and helped pull the rope. You know what's at the end of the rope? The afternoon catch! School of small fishes and some bigger fishes!

Hopefully, Barbara and Tom enjoyed their stay and someday come back for a longer visit.

GIS Delegates

Toucheng Farm is privilege to have The GIS (Global Initiative Symposium ) Delegates' visit
even for a short time.

The group of mostly Americans and some Canadians are attending the Symposium at the National Taiwan University. They were invited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Antigua School of Yilan

The Antigua School of Yilan City has a kindergarten and an Elementary School. Some nineteen children of the grade school section joined the English Summer Camp with their three Teachers, our American Teachers and Teachers Assistants.
They stayed at Toucheng Farm for three days and 2 nights, mind you, no one cried at night, but a few shed some tears during the distribution of certificates!

They knew its time to say goodbye to friends and Teachers who took care of them without Mom or Dad around, a touching moment indeed!

Another group of summer campers will start next week, wait till I tell you about them!
