Fairfield Methodist (Secondary) School of Singapore

The Fairfield Methodist (Secondary) School Teachers and Students visited Toucheng Leisure Farm last Tuesday, April 23-24 for a visit.
Each one participated all the activities - from kilning, BBQ dinner, sky lantern making plus lighting and enjoyed the evening until bedtime.
The next day, April 24, they went to the rice paddies to transplant rice seedlings, barefooted! Look at them in action!
A visit to the Farm is incomplete without seeing and feeding the goats at the animals area.
Then they proceeded to the calamansi and kumquat orchard.
They stayed until past eleven o'clock and took the bus to continue their next chosen itinerary.
We have guests from Singapore and Malaysia weekly. Like them you, too can enjoy a night or two at Toucheng Leisure Farm plus a refreshing day and  sumptuous meals.

What are you waiting for?

Welcome!

Bamboo (Phyllostachys makinoi hayata)

Toucheng Leisure Farm is very lucky bamboo grows at in its vast area. The scientific name of this specie is Phyllostachys makinoi hayata, named after the Japanese botanist Dr. Hayata who discovered it. Is bamboo a tree or plant (grass)?

Bamboos are one of the world's fastest growing plants. It is proven that they can grow around 120 cm. tall in 24 hours period!

The bamboo forest at Toucheng Leisure Farm is not only a factory of raw materials for our DIY activities, it is also a source of food (bamboo shoots), but most of all a special place to visit. Here you can breathe the fresh and aromatic air of the bamboos, hear the whispers of the breeze when the wind blows or cherish the walk as you count the shoots while gathering them for a delicious dinner dish!

There are many legends, stories, facts and fictions about bamboos. Come to Toucheng Leisure Farm to discover some of them.

Exchange students of Ming Chuan University (Taoyuan Branch)

Forty four exchange students ( from at least 10 countries) of Ming Chuan University, Taoyuan Branch, spent their day at Toucheng Leisure Farm last Saturday (April 14, 2012).
Every one had the chance of a first-hand experience of building a kiln using their bare hands. It was fascinating to watch them busy and successfully did it well!

At the rice paddies, they were lucky to watch some children and their parents transplanting the rice seedlings.

Here, you see how tempting it was for some and transplanted it themselves bare footed and on bended waists!

They also visited the Farm animals area and feed the goats.

Here are the four beauties, from different countries!

You should see them as they picked right from the trees, the kumquats and bitter oranges (calamansi) filling up the bags and even ate them!

Here is a group from --Mongolia.

So cool and comfortable, right?
